Our Programs

CAP

  • Our Clothing Assistance Program provides clothing and shoes to homeless and nearly homeless individuals and families.
  • We will honor vouchers from local service providers such as the Department of Social Services, OIC, NEED Inc., and C-CAN.
  • All of the clothing and shoes are donated and shopping is free.
  • UCM residents work in CAP as part of our Life Skills Program.

Life Skills Program

  • The Life Skills Program goal is to teach our clients basic life skills.
  • Resident who are not employed must complete 20 hours a month of Life Skills activities at our facilities or in the community. Activities include cooking, laundry, cleaning the buildings and grounds and assisting with organizing donations of clothing and food.
  • Residents with excellent performance receive a letter of recommendation from UCM to use as they seek employment.

Rapid Rehousing Program

  • The purpose of the Rapid Rehousing Program is to minimize the length of time an individual or family remains in the limbo of homelessness.
  • An assessment is completed and once qualified, local housing is secured with financial assistance provided as needed.
  • In 2016 Rapid Re-Housing assisted 45 qualified households attain stable and affordable permanent housing.

Christ CAN

  • Christ CAN is a nonprofit, faith-based ministry supported by local churches that operates under the umbrella of United Community Ministries.
  • Christ CAN assists local people in need with rent, utilities, heaters, air conditioners, gas for vehicles and spiritual guidance.
  • A person in crisis is not alone; Christ CAN will meet with them and try to help.

Food Distribution Program

  • Established in 2015 to feed the hungry children, families and individuals in our community.
  • With a voucher, free food boxes are given every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
  • The food is donated by partners with the NC Food Bank.
